The Fire Apparatus Driver Operator is responsible for driving, operating, and maintaining fire vehicles and equipment. The role ensures safe transport of the crew, proper positioning of the apparatus, and reliable operation of pumps and systems during emergency responses.
Responsibilities:
- Drive fire apparatus safely to emergency scenes.
- Choose safe and efficient routes based on traffic and weather.
- Ensure crew and equipment safety during transport.
- Operate fire pumps, ladders, and vehicle systems.
- Position the apparatus correctly for firefighting and rescue.
- Monitor equipment performance during operations.
- Perform daily checks of the vehicle and equipment.
- Report any defects or maintenance needs immediately.
- Keep the apparatus clean, fueled, and ready for response.
- Deploy hose lines and supply water as directed.
- Assist with ladders and rescue support when required.
- Follow instructions from the Officer in charge.
- Use radios effectively and report status updates.
- Follow all driving and equipment safety procedures.
- Participate in drills and safety training.
- Complete daily checklists and maintenance logs.
- Report repairs and equipment issues accurately.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Apparatus Driver / Operator (NFPA 1002)
- Firefighter I & II (NFPA 1001)
